How long do accidents and
tickets stay on my driving record?
Three years from the date of conviction
If I was not convicted of the
ticket, why does the accident still show up on my driving
record?
Any time an officer comes to the scene of fan accident, an
accident report is written. When the paper work is
completed, the accident will appear on the driving record,
even if you were not charged or "at fault."
What do I need to take out a
car insurance policy?
To apply for auto insurance, you will need registrations or
proof of ownership for all vehicles and license numbers on
all drivers in the household. For additional discounts, you
may need a copy of your prior insurance policy and/or proof
of home ownership.
What do I need to apply for
home insurance?
Information on the construction of the house, including
updates to the plumbing, electrical, and roof, is required.
In addition, photos of the front and back of the house are
required.
Do I have to list my spouse
or children on my policy?
The exception to this rule is for drivers who have their
own vehicles insured in their own name. With proof of other
insurance, the insurance company will not require that the
other driver be listed on your policy.
Can I take my children or
spouse off of my policy?
The insurance companies require proof that the listed
driver has his own insurance policy in his own name before
they will delete the driver. The only other option is for
driver to show proof that he has surrendered his license.
The insurance companies will delete drivers who no longer
have their driver's license.
Why do insurance companies
use credit scores to calculate rates?
Insurance companies are using credit records and credit
scores more often to give customers discounts on automobile
insurance rates. This is especially true on physical damage
rates. If the customer has good credit, he may find that
the company will give him a cheaper rate. In addition, most
homeowners companies are using credit histories to reduce
the number of claims. History shows that many fraudulent
home owners claims are filed by people in financial
trouble. However, Foster Insurance Agency represents
several companies for auto, home, and commercial insurance
that do not require a credit score.
When getting house insurance,
why does the insurance company care what kind of dog I
own?
Animal breeds that have a vicious history can easily lead
to liability claims. Therefore, many insurance companies
will not write a policy on a house when the owner or
resident has dogs that have a history of biting. Failure to
disclose this information will result in the cancellation
of the policy and is considered misrepresentation.
What about trampolines and
pools?
The insurance companies will refuse to write insurance on
houses where there are trampolines or pools due to high
liability risk. Trampolines are considered a high risk
because of accidents to children - with or without
permission to be on the property. Also enticing to
children, pools can be covered for liability with the home
insurance, but the owner must show proof that the pool is
enclosed by a 4" self-locking fence. (Some companies
require a larger fence)
